Kwantlen Creative Writing 1100 Fall 2009 Anthologies

This past term, my Creative Writing classes created class anthologies at the end of the term. The class determined everything about the project except two caveats: 1. Each student must be represented. 2. The work must somehow be available to the public. The young writers worked hard on this project and I'm pleased to present  three of these anthologies below:

Customs

Jim Johnstone and Cactus Press have just released my latest chapbook. It's called "Customs" and it has it's providence in the story of Louis Sam, a Sto:lo boy who was lynched in Sumas in 1884.

Bridge to a Cool Planet: The Weather Makers

October 24 is International Day of Climate Action. In Vancouver, events are being organized by Bridge to a Cool Planet: www.bridgecoolplanet.ca/en/. In addition, my friend, Kate Costello, is organizing a digital book to be sent to government with contributions of writers from all over British Columbia.

From "Reservations: Identity and Poetic Form"

The following is an excerpt of the lecture I'll be giving next week at the 2009 Literatures of the West Coast Graduate Conference at the University of the Victoria. The working title is "Reservations: Identity and Poetic Form" and it mostly tells the story of how I came to think of poetic form as being both customs agent and traveller, local and global.
